Clean socks, fitted shirts and leggings or shorts are preferable to loosely flowing garments. Grip Socks are best for traction on the apparatus, we sell these in the shop if you need a pair. If you have hair that falls in your eyes, please tie it back. A light jacket or wrap can be nice to warm up.
"I have back pain/sciatica/ruptured or bulging disc, arthritis, a clicking knee, a stiff hip, a cranky neck, a sore shoulder... is Pilates safe for me to do?"
Pilates emphasizes functional full body movements which is an excellent way to strengthen and heal your body. Our teachers are experts and will show you adaptations for your needs so you can exercise safely. If you are in acute pain or recently injured please consult with your healthcare provider.
Pilates is exercise, not physical therapy, but many physical therapists and body-workers refer their clients to Kinesia Pilates to stabilize and deepen the work they have done in therapy. Pilates exercises are designed to improve posture, circulation and coordination, which can help alleviate physical pain and distress. There are hundreds of exercises to choose from, as well as countless modifications, so we can develop a personalized full-body workout that helps your body to heal.
Owner Christl Marcontell additionally offers Kettlebell training. When performed with good technique Kettlebell workouts are recommended by some physical therapists to strengthen the deep muscles of the spine and the posterior chain.
There is metered street parking all around the neighborhood. We recommend $3 hour parking at Stadium Place Parking just a few blocks away (on the corner S. King/Occidental, right by Quality Athletics sport bar). If you want to ditch the car, the Seattle Street Car’s First Hill Line stops just a block away, and King Street Station and the Pioneer Square Tunnel are also an easy walk from our door. You can also borrow a bike from Pronto Bike Share and get an extra burst of cardio in your day! For more options on parking check this handy link for affordable parking lots.
You can purchase lessons and classes online or in person using cash or a credit card. We also have monthly subscriptions to get a special rate for classes. Most established students find it convenient to have a subscription, which is also cost effective and helps motivate regular practice. Subscriptions may be paid by ACH (auto deduction from account). Subscriptions go month-to-month, and with two weeks written notice may be canceled or suspended to accommodate travel, family changes and other demands. Talk to us if you need to change your subscription. There are no fees or dues for being a subscriber.
